A Beautiful Pause: Reflections from the Rest & Restore Day Retreat
There is something sacred that happens when a group of women come together with a shared intention to rest, reflect, and reconnect. Last weekend’s Rest & Restore Day Retreat was a soul-nourishing reminder that slowing down isn’t a luxury—it’s a necessity.
Set against the gentle backdrop of nature, the day unfolded with softness and strength. From our opening circle—where vulnerability and shared humanity blossomed—to the closing Yoga Nidra practice, every moment invited participants to turn inward and listen deeply.
So, how did it feel to take this pause?
The words participants used speak volumes: calm, grounded, grateful, peaceful, aligned, content, connected, blissful, nourished. One shared, “I’m leaving with a full belly and heart—like I slowed down.” Another said, “I feel extremely blessed and nurtured.” Over and over, what echoed was not just the experience of rest, but the deep emotional exhale that comes with being truly held.
What resonated most?
So many spoke to the power of the circle—how the simple act of stepping in created a ripple of connection and compassion. The restorative yoga, guided meditation, and breathwork were deeply grounding. “Child’s Pose sparked motivation,” one participant reflected. Another found peace in “sitting in the quiet.” The final Yoga Nidra session was described as “a perfect way to end the day.”
There was delight too—at the goodie bags, the food, the tea selection, the soft music and props, and the care woven into every detail. One attendee said, “Your attention to detail—everything was so well thought out—the food, the gift bags—it was all so special.”
The gift of self-compassion
Many reflected on how the retreat deepened their understanding of self-compassion—not as another task on the to-do list, but as a way of being. “It showed me to have self-compassion,” one wrote. Another realized, “It doesn’t need to be so full—it can be just 10 minutes.”
For some, it was a return to self:
“Even though I advocate for slowing down and resting, I realized I struggle to do it in practice.”
“The first activity was a real wake-up call to not putting myself first.”
“It helped me become aware of the resources I have—simply myself.”
Tools to take home
From daily restorative poses to “rest snacks,” from humming practices to meditation and Yoga Nidra—everyone left with something practical and meaningful. One woman shared, “I have the power to make little rest snacks in a busy day.” Another said, “I’ll continue to hold space for these types of experiences and practices.”
Suggestions for the future?
Overnight retreats. Weekend immersions. Teen retreats. Mother-daughter days. “Do more,” someone wrote. “I’m in—do it, do it!”
In their words…
How would you describe the experience in one word or phrase?
“Exceptional.”
“Nourishing.”
“Grounding, nurturing, blissful.”
“A reminder of the importance of rest.”
“Relaxing.”
“Absolutely beautiful.”
“Bliss.”
A Final Note from Me
Holding this space is an honour. Every conversation, every breath, every pause—each moment reminded me of why this work matters. Thank you to everyone who showed up with open hearts, full presence, and a willingness to soften. You reminded me, too, that rest is radical—and that when we come together to restore, we ripple that healing outward.
If you missed this retreat, don’t worry—there’s more to come. Keep an eye out for future offerings, including overnight retreats and special gatherings for teens and mothers and daughters. Your seat in the circle is waiting.
If you’re ready to start the journey toward healing, remember—there’s no shame in asking for help. You don’t have to navigate this path alone.
